New Safe Space Guidelines (Dec. 2009)
The Prescott Pride Center leadership team has created a new set of guidelines (updated December 2009) that better reflect the culture we want to maintain at the Center. Please take a minute to review the guidelines and be sure to keep them in mind every time you visit the Pride Center.
For the enjoyment of all our visitors, we ask you to adhere to the following guidelines whenever you’re at the Prescott Pride Center:
- Please treat everyone with courtesy and respect. Use polite language and think about the power and impact of your words. Communicate with love and compassion!
- Honor the diversity within our community—age, gender, sexual orientation, race, economic status, gender identity, and more!
- Speak for yourself and let others speak for themselves. If a person isn’t in the room, they shouldn’t be the topic of conversation. Gossip and rumors don’t build our community up, they break it down!
- Keep alcohol, weapons, and illegal drugs away from the Pride Center. These items are not allowed in the building or on the grounds.
- Violence, fighting, and physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated.
- Please respect the privacy of all our visitors. Anything that is shared at the Pride Center should remain confidential, unless otherwise noted.
- Sexual activity is not permitted in the Pride Center building or anywhere on the property. As the saying goes, “get a room!”
- Please address other visitors by the pronouns and names they prefer.
- We encourage you to be smoke-free while you’re at the Pride Center. If you choose to smoke, please restrict smoking to the designated table in the front of the Center. And clean out the butt cans regularly!
- Take responsibility for group discussions and interactions. Make an effort to include others in conversation and try not to dominate discussions (remember that your favorite topic may not be everyone’s cup of tea). Be sure to speak up if things turn negative or someone violates the safe space guidelines.
- Please treat the Pride Center with care. Clean up after yourself and report any maintenance issues to staff right away.
- Soliciting for business, religious, or sexual purposes is not allowed.
- Cameras and audio/video recording equipment should not be used without advance permission from the subjects being photographed or recorded.
The Prescott Pride Center reserves the right to refuse service or access to anyone who doesn’t uphold these guidelines.
